Rognlin’s demolished and removed an old and dilapidated brick and steel building on the south side of East Heron Street. The old Pioneer Paper building had been an eyesore and safety hazard since 2018, when part of the roof caved in and the façade began to lean out over the sidewalk. The City closed off the sidewalk and parking in front of the building to prevent damage or injury from potential collapse. The building had a storied past in Aberdeen, constructed in 1905 and home to the Fashion Saloon and Blockhouse Smith buildings.
The demolition required careful coordination around an adjacent building that shared a wall with the Pioneer Paper building.
